My Milo Marathon story

The finals of the Milo Marathon is fast approaching. With about 10 days to go, all qualifiers from both provincial and manila legs will converge at the "kalabaw" to run this event. What makes it truly anticipated is that all the elite runners of the country will vie for the highest awards.

This run is three years in the making for me. I joined the 2006 edition running the 5k and the 2007 edition by donning the 10k. This is all I could get the past two years.

The Metro Manila eliminations last August, 2008 gave me a challenge by joining in the 42k event. After running the Pasig Heritage Marathon in February, 2008 I look for this as my next full. I intended to run just two fulls this year and it was the best time to run the second because it was six months in between. But, surprisingly, I finished inside the qualifying time. And the reward for that was I'm qualified to run the finals. I'll have my third. So be it; on November 30 at 4:30am I'll be running with the elites.

Read my story here.

I had mine, you must have yours.

going for number 3

  1. Good luck Vener! I am sure you will do very well on Nov 30.

You're much leaner now than in your Milo story pic too, so I guess that means at least 10 minutes off your qualifying time :-)

  9. Vener,

All the best in the Finals. As what you said that the qualifying time was 4 hrs for the man. I got the message wrongly. Any way, break another record. You are fast and I know you can break your best PR!.

  18. Thanks Philip, you shouldn't be because there are more to come. By the way I met Jonie (did I get her name right?) your friend at the Milo registration early afternoon today. Good to know she is a competitive runner as you are. Good luck to the both of you, see you soon.

  19. Yeah, it is spelled Jonnie, I was confused a bit as well but apparently it is karaniwang sa States to have a name spelled like that parra sa babae. She told me she met you. Well I registered for the 10km but will do a long run on the day. Hope to see you there and all the best. I know you will do great.

  22. Vener my friend, good luck to you this coming Sunday!

I agree that doing two marathons in six months is ample time for rest in between. Also, it's awesome running with the elites, something that I hope for in a qualifying of my own ironically this coming Sunday.

The phrase "three times is a charm" would be appropriate. Again, best of luck and will be thinking of you.

  23. Thanks Wayne, good luck on your sunday run too. I just categorized it as running with the elites because the runners here were filtered during the elims. I should say I just got lucky then.

    God bless and take care.
