Condura Skyway Marathon Is All Revved Up For Race Day

It is all systems go for the premier marathon event in the country, the Condura Skyway Marathon, Run for the Mangroves 2013. The starting line in Filinvest City Alabang heats up with 14,000 runners on Sunday, February 3, 2013.

Organized by Condura Skyway Marathon’s Founder and Chief Organizing Officer, Ton Concepcion and its running ambassador Patrick Concepcion, the sixth edition of this much-anticipated yearly race event by runners for runners once again is out to prove that it is worthy of its bid to be the premier running event in the Asia Pacific.

This year the race will have the usual 10k, 21k and full 42k marathon categories plus the new 3.8k, 6k which are especially meant for the fun and adventurous runners who are not yet ready to take on the mid to long distance-races.

The 2013 installment of this prestigious run records the biggest growth of 42k and 21k runners compared to the previous years. Both the number of full and half marathoners increased by almost 50%! “We are very pleased with this growth. And what motivates us more is the trust of many who will do their inaugural full or half mary with us. That is why the team has been working tirelessly planning, reviewing and arguing to make sure that they are safe and well taken care of,” mused Ton Concepcion.

Apart from the challenge and fun that this race has in-store for runners, participating in this race will also mean taking part in the Condura Skyway Marathon advocacy of helping with the reforestation of the Mangroves in Zamboanga de Sibugay in partnership with Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF) . Each runner through their registration, will get to donate three mangrove seedlings which will be planted in his/her name. In 2012, the first year that Condura Skyway Marathon adopted the mangroves reforestation project to its cause, a total of 39,000 seedlings have already been planted in Kabasalan Town through runners’ donation. With 14,000 participants this year, this translates to another 42,000 trees that will make a huge difference in the livelihood of more communities in Zamboanga.

Condura Skyway Marathon is truly a run with a big heart! Runners will now have the opportunity to raise pledges for the charities it is supporting. For 2013, the premier running event is proud to support Bikes for Philippines, Hero Foundation, I Can Serve and Liter of Light. Runners can raise pledges of P50 pesos per kilometer and a time bonus of P500 pesos if they hit their time goal. “Our aim is to encourage runners to embrace more causes to better the lives of those in need. This is our own little way of helping these foundations raise funds so they can continue on with their respective programs and activities. We want to help in making the country a better place – one step at a time,” says Ton Concepcion.

Registration is ongoing at the Olympic Village, Alabang Town Center, Muntinlupa City. Hurry – few race kits are left!

Official Announcement For The Battle Of The Sexes Race

Here's an update from the Runrio-Hotel Sofitel Battle of the Sexes Race. Incidentally, I was also told that a 5km race category will be added in the staging of the said event. Registration fee for 5km is Php500.

Dear Runners,

It is with deep regret that we have to announce that the Battle of the Sexes race event which was originally scheduled to happen on Saturday, January 26, 2013 as a night-time race, is postponed.

Despite being able to acquire approval/permits from the SM Mall of Asia and Pasay City authorities, we will be unable to organize a night-time scheduled race because we were not granted approval by the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) who has jurisdiction on vital portions of the Battle of the Sexes race route.

Citing safety and security concerns, the PRA have declined to provide approval on the use of the road under their authority/jurisdiction on a Saturday night race.

With this being the case, RunRio in partnership with Hotel Sofitel will need to reschedule and redesign the said race as a Sunday-morning event, thus the need for postponement.

The new schedule of the Battle of the Sexes race will be on Sunday, March 3 at 5:30AM.

In line with the postponement, registration period will be extended until February 17 for Online Registration and until February 24 for In-Store Registration.

Runners who have already registered for this event need not worry since their registration will still be valid for use on the same event. For further concerns, you may send us an email via feedback@runrio.com with the subject “Battle of the Sexes” or call us in any of the following RunRio hotlines:

Globe – 0927 347 7700
Smart – 0929 717 8164
Landline – (632) 703-1736

Our apologies for this inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you at the rescheduled Battle of the Sexes event!

Sincerely yours,
The RunRio Team

PhilHealth Nationwide Run 2013

The First Simultaneous Nationwide Run

On February 17, 2013, roads in 18 sites across the nation will be taken over as the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, better known as PhilHealth, stages the first simultaneous nationwide running event dubbed as PhilHealth Run 2013.

Drawing inspiration from the two highly successful running events organized by its regional centers in Mindanao, the PhilHealth Run 2013: Nationwide Run for Mother and Child Protection promises to be a memorable sporting event as it aims to engage near 100,000 professional and amateur runners from different parts of the country – all running simultaneously with one aim in mind: Universal Health Care in the Philippines.

Runners will converge in 18 major cities that include: Manila, Baguio, Dagupan, Tuguegarao, Clark, Malolos, Sta. Rosa, Batangas, Legazpi, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Iligan, Davao, Koronadal, Butuan, and Marawi.

Through this momentous event, PhilHealth aims to rally the entire nation as it helps stage a push towards bringing universal health care a reality. With universal coverage, every Filipino, regardless of status, is given the financial access and support to quality health care and services.

18 Sites, 18 Years, 1 Nation

The nationwide run on February 17, 2013 marks PhilHealth’s 18years of service to the Filipino people, having been established in 1995 with the enactment of Republic Act 7875.

The event’s simultaneous staging across 18 sites in the country emphasizes the point of unity and oneness in aim and spirit. As PhilHealth’s 18th year anniversary celebration for February, dubbed National Health Insurance Month through Presidential Proclamation No. 1400 in 2007, it will surely stand different from the rest as one of historic and great proportions.

In support of the country's efforts towards achieving the Millenium Development Goals of reducing child mortality and improving maternal health, proceeds from the event will be used to support national and regional institutions promoting the protection of mothers and children in the country. The national beneficiary of the PhilHealth Run 2013 is the Philippine Children's Medical Center, and local beneficiaries vary per region. More than just a running event, it endeavors to uphold the importance of our mother’s and children's health in the challenge of nation-building.

PhilHealth Run MANILA Venue: Quirino Grandstand

The Quirino Grandstand will be the site of the Manila leg of the country's first simultaneous nationwide run – the PhilHealth Run 2013. On February 17, 2013, a whopping 18,000 runners from the country’s capitol will come together to celebrate and run for our nation’s mothers and children, and for universal health coverage in the country.

Proceeds of the run will go to the benefit of the PhilHealth Run's National Sponsor, the Philippine Children Medical Center, and the regional beneficiary, Cottolengo Filipino, a private non-stock, non-profit, religious, and non-government organization licensed and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that cares for abandoned, disabled persons, especially children.

The Nike Air Max+ 2013

Nike makes an icon more flexible than ever with Air Max+ 2013. A reengineered Nike Max Air unit makes a classic running shoe lighter, more cushioned and an even better fit.

Philippines – January 2013: The franchise that started a revolution releases its 2013 edition totally designed for runners’ needs. The Nike Air Max+ 2013 features the most advanced heel-to-toe Nike Max Air unit ever to provide lightweight, soft cushioning and more flexibility than any previous version.

The Nike Air Max team emphasized natural motion in their design. They started by reconstructing the Nike Max Air unit to ensure the softest, most comfortable ride possible. The unit’s internal walls are minimized to encourage airflow, and internal tubes move with the foot to provide more flexibility than in previous Nike Air units.

Nike Hyperfuse construction is used throughout the shoe to create a lighter, more breathable upper and a reduced overall weight, without sacrificing on comfort. Open hole mesh on the upper serves the dual purpose of generating allowing increased ventilation for comfort on the run and a sleek appearance.

A notched inner sleeve wraps around the foot, while a molded collar supports the ankle to create an improved fit that feels virtually seamless. Whether on the street or the treadmill, dynamic Nike Flywire technology ensures that the midfoot stays secure and supported at all times.

The Nike Air Max+ 2013 takes its place as the latest incarnation of the Air Max franchise. As both a timeless statement of innovation and a perennial sports classic, visible air has set Nike apart for almost a quarter of a century.

As the first shoe to feature visible air, the original Air Max 1, designed by Tinker Hatfield, revolutionized an industry and reshaped the design landscape for running footwear. In the late 80′s, the idea of running on air was an innovation that not only had never been seen before but also delivered a fit and level of comfort that changed the game. In the years following, Air Max shoes have become the epitome of running performance and style.

Visible air continues to be one of the most relevant and revolutionary innovations Nike has ever created. The reinvented Nike Air Max+ 2013 represents the evolution of Nike Running.

My 2012 Mileage

Happy new year. It has been a fruitful year for me during the 2012 season.

My stat below revealed that I gained more distance as compared from the previous year. During 2011, I accumulated a total of 987.20km, while in 2012 I reached a total of 2,280.00km. A 43% increase in my annual mileage.

The months of October and November was noticeably the top mileage getter. October had been the training month for the CM50-mile race, the toughest I have done yet. It also included the 50km Pinatubo Trail Challenge where I did an ultra distance to build-up for the CM50. I also ran the RUPM 42k (with a good clocking as a bonus), just barely a week after the Pinatubo Race during this month.

November was the host for the two recon runs for the CM50 Race and the CM50-mile Race itself, that's why it gained the top mileage. Plus, I never stopped doing short accumulative runs during this period. October and November gained a cumulative total of 528km.

I have been satisfied with my annual result for 2012. I hope I could sustain it this coming year and hopefully run more trails and ultras.

See you at the starting line.
